He was married and living in Lunenburg-Halifax county area of Virginia, by 1750. He remained there until 1777, when he sold all his lands and removed to Lincoln County, North Carolina. He died about 1798, leaving an extensive and complex estate, the final distribution from which was not paid out until 1818.
His date of death is calculated by a comparison of the dates on which he signed his Will (June 21, 1797), and the date on which his widow filed a Quit Claim on his estate (November 25, 1799), in which she stated that her husband was deceased.
