Frederic was 10 when his father died. He was educated at Chaterhouse and then at Worcester College Oxford. He became a shcool master and taught at Oundle and Bedales Schools. He joined the army in 1914 at the out- break of war in the Inns of Court Regiment as a Lieutenant. Just before leaving for Gallipoli by boat in 1915 he married on 9/5/1915. He joined the Malay Civil Service in 1921 and became a Senior Education Officer. This happened after his divorce from Renee Bozonet in late 1920 or early 1921.
Frederic was posted missing off the coast off Singapore during the evacuation of the city from the Japanese. His ship was believed to be torpedoed with total loss. A certificate of death was issued in 1947 stating his presumed death at sea on or after 12/2/42.
He had been living in Singapore as a Headmaster with the British Educational Service in Malaya at 524 East Coast Road.
He was divorced from his wife and apparantly remarried during the evacuation so that he could help a Malayan girl escape with him. She had a daughter Julie who survived the war. Her mother died as a refugee. Julie came to England after the war and lived first with Hester Atkinson and then Peter Cobb. She later emigrated to Australia with her child Regina.
[N2973] This based on the fact Frederic had married his second wife by then.
