Notes
"MR. GEORGE BROWN DEAD. Pioneer Winnipeg Banker SuddenlyTaken Away at His Riverside Home, Enderby. Last Saturday morning Mr. George Brown was confined to his bed by a sudden attack of heart trouble, of which he had complained for several weeks, though not considered serious. In the afternoon Dr. Keith was called, but no medical aid was of any avail. That evening death ensued, coming quietly after several hours of great pain about his heart and lungs.
The funeral took place tuesday afternoon from the little home by the riverside, (Spallumcheen) interment taking place in the Enderby cemetery overlooking and within hailing distance, almost, of the fields and shady nooks where he 'was want to roam'. The service was quiet and simple as he often expressed the wish that it should be. Rev. Mr. Gretton reading the Episcopal burial service.
Thus passed out of our midst a Canadian gentleman, aged 73. Prosperity in early business, followed by reverses at the time of the Winnipeg slump, lent a tinge of bitterness to the words of the man when he spoke of life's problems, but back of and behind these words of jest and cynicism there beat the generous heart of a Canadian pioneer - than whom the World's Potter never did mould a truer type of manhood.
Fortunately, Mrs. Checkley, Mrs. Brown's daughter, arrived a few days before the father's going and will remain with her mother for the summer."
