Notes

Jefferson was a Civil War Veteran. After Clarinda died it is reported that he took a common law wife and had additional children where he lived in Northern Minnesota. His tombstone at Nevis, Minnesota carries his army record as a member of the Kentucky Infantry. Jefferson was the grandson of Robert Shortridge and a great grandson of Colonel John Shortridge, a Revolutionary War officer.
