The Keowee Courier, 04 May 1960: "ELDER CITIZEN TAKEN BY DEATH". George W. Cobb, 94, of the Long Creek community, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie Stone Saturday following several years of declining health and a serious illness of five days. One of Oconee County's oldest residents, Mr. Cobb spent his entire life in the Long Creek community as a farmer. He was the son of the late Rev. Robert and Nancy Long Cobb, and a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are one son, Boone Cobb of Mountain Rest; four daughters, Mrs. Bessie Stone of Long Creek, Mrs. Rosa Cassidy of Ridge Springs, Mrs. Walter Duke of Toccoa, Ga. and Mrs. C. D. Seawright of Johnston; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Styles Cobb of Greenville. Funeral services were held Monday from Mountain Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Virgil Perkins and the Rev. L. H. Raines. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers; George Cobb, Buddy Cassidy, Jimmy Melvin, J. R. Stone, Dewey Stone, and Fred Derrick. Honorary escort; Rufus Carter, C. C. Moore, the Rev. Taylor Burton, Andrew Ramey, John Carter, Jule Thrift, Arthur Woodall, and Leroy Brown. Davenport Funeral Home was in charge.
