Notes

Thomas Daniel, born May 25, 1789 in Virginia, son of James and Nancy (Belcher) Daniel of Tazewell County, Virginia, and step-son of Samuel Sellards died in Van Zandt County, Texas, November 28, 1868. He came to Kentucky with his step-father at age 12. Thomas married first in Floyd County, Kentucky, October 28, 1812, Susie Ward. He married second in Lawrence County, Kentucky, April 30, 1928, Eunice Adams, and married third in Floyd County, Kentucky, August 12, 1835, Winnie Anne O'Bryant (Bryant), born November 15, 1817 in present day Johnson County, Kentucky, died April 3, 1881 in Terrel, Texas, buried by her husband in Van Zandt County. Her father was John O'Bryant.

Thomas left is Toms Creek home in Johnson County, Kentucky April 23, 1859, traveling by freight steamer or push boat to Catlettsburg, Kentucky. From Catlettsburg they took the steamer "Boston" to Cincinnati, Ohio. At Cincinnati they booked passage to New Orleans. On the first Sunday in May their steamboat passed from the Ohio into the Mississippi. Their passage on the Mississippi was fraught with problems. Three fires occurred aboard ship which the crew and passengers were able to extinguish. The fourth fire, between Red River and Shreveport, destroyed the boat. They caught another boat which took them on into Shreveport, Louisiana.

From Shreveport they took an overland trek of some 150 miles to Van Zandt County, Texas to settle. Thus ended their 2700 mile migration by water and ox cart. With Tom was his third wife Winnie and sons Julius and Wyatt. Another son, Andrew, had migrated to the Texas area two years earlier.

According to Mrs. Shirley Bentley the Bible record shows Unice instead of Eunice shown in the marriage record for Tom's second wife. Her name was pronounced by family members as "You Nicie".

One of the traditions of this branch of the Daniel family is to the effect the first Daniel ancestor to America from Wales came aboard the ship "Bonaventure". Aboard this ship was a Sir Francis Wyatt, and thus the reason for Francis and Wyatt begin used as first names in the Daniel lineage.
