Historical Notes
During the Second World War, he served as a Naval aviator in the Pacific Theater, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he attended Yale University, where he received a degree in Economics in 1948. He moved to Texas in the 1950's, and became wealthy in the Oil industry. He was elected to the US House of Representatives from Texas, in 1966 and served until 1970. He served as Ambassador to the United Nations, 1971-72; and, was Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, 1976-77. In 1980, he was elected Vice-President under Ronald Reagan. Then in 1988, he was elected the 41st President of the United States.
