Notes

Archibald bought and sold properties in Upper Elkton, TN, from Feb 1833- August 1850. He was a shoe and bootmaker by trade. In reading the court documents dated August 6, 1849, where Archibald Conoly had Deeds of Conveyence for five lots, others had Deeds and Bills of Sale for tables, sugar chest, crops of corn, gray mares and many negro slaves; all compiled together. Archibald owned stock in the Columbia, Pulaski, Elkton Alabama Turnpike Road Company. In addition, Conoly owned the Upper and Lower Elkton Ferries and twelve lots.

Family tradition: There were more children born to this union that died in infancy or early childhood. One named Blanche, is said to have died on the way to Texas.

DECEMBER 1838: Guardianship appointed for A.D. Conoly- non coompos mentis. Filed for record Dec 18, 1858.

JULY 6, 1859: J.L. Conoly guardian. $5,000 bond made Jan 1, 1859. Members of the jury determined A.D. Conoly of unsound mind.

NOVEMBER 26, 1861. J.L. Conoly administered the estate of A.D. Conoly. A.D. Conoly departed May 1861. Left no will. Fact brought out that he had holdings in Tennessee. J.L. Conoly was appointed guardian of the minor children: J.P. Conoly, C.C. Conoly, W.C. Conoly, Esther Conoly, Webster Conoly, and Lilly Conoly.

1862-JANUARY TERM OF COURT: Record that negroes and land in Tennessee brought $2,500.00. J.L. Conoly in charge of money.
