Notes

During the War Between the States, he served in Company K, 12th South Carolina Infantry Regiment. He was captured in 1864, and died in the Federal Military Prison at Point Lookout, Maryland. Point Lookout was the largest Federal Prisoner of War camp, built after the battle of Gettysburg, and at one time held as many as 52,000 Confederate prisoners, some 3,800 of which died from exposure and disease. The site is now a Maryland State Park.
