He was a US Army veteran of the Second World War. From Jan 1940 to Jul 1945, he served with Company F, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division and experienced action in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. He was wounded and was awared the Purple Heart. His obituary also listed as survivors grandchildren Kari Cobb Kieffer and husband Cory of Sherman, Texas; Rhett Cobb of Elk City, Oklahoma; and Crockett and Glynn Cobb of Crawford, Oklahoma.
