[N2430] Edmund served as a Lieutenant of militia during the American Revolution.

His estate as inventoried and appraised, and received by the court on 22 December 1800, included fifteen slaves, household goods, livestock, farm equipment, blacksmith tools, one set of house joiner's tools, one gun, one pair of mill stones, one still, and some 1,268 acres of land in Bedford County. As some of his heirs had received an advancement on their inheritence, it was necessary for the Executor of his estate, in order to balance the distribution of the estate, to collect from some in order to pay others.

The 1,268 acres of land Edmund left, had been surveyed by William Callaway on 26 November 1799, as part of the inventory and appraisal of the estate. This land had been platted and sub-divided into nine lots. At the request of several of the heirs (William Tompkins, John Staples, Jeffery Cobbs, William Cobbs, and David Cobbs), Lots one through five were to be held in joint ownership. It is noted that these heirs had not received any land specifically per the distribution, and that these five lots totaled some 608 acres. The total survey boundaries were described as Fowler's line, Brock's lines, Merewether's corner and lines, Robert Cobbs corner and line, Ivy Creek, Wright's line, W. Cobbs lines, North's lines, Clay's corner and lines. All five lots were either on or near Ivy Creek, and several bordered the property owned by Francis F. Merewether.

[N2429] This instrument was recorded on Dec 22, 1800, indicating he had died in the interim.
