During the American Revolution, he held a commission as Colonel. The extent of his active service is not known, considering his advanced age at the time. This is the gentleman researchers have affectionately named "Old Tom Cobb" due to his longevity of 110-plus years. In this instrument he made reference to the fact that he had outlived all his children. His Will was entered into probate on 03 June 1833 in Columbia County, Georgia. Therefore, he had probably died within the previous 30 days.
