"JOHN W. COBB CEMETERY 1892: He was the donor of this Plot: not only did he have a big heart, he was a big man: standing 6 feet 7 inches from the sole of his feet to the crown of his head. His wife was Sally Hunter the grand-daughter of Henry Hunter, Sr., who with his brothers, built cabins on Big Hickman Creek, thereby becoming the first permanent white settlers in what is now Jessamine County, Kentucky. John W. and Sally became the parents of seven sons and five daughters. Six of the sons are sleeping here, while the seventh; Norton Pendleton Cobb sleeps in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville, Kentucky. John W. Cobb's great-grandfather 5 times removed, Ambrose Cobb was born 1590, died 1656; emigrated from England to Virginia in 1613; was granted 350 acres of land on the Appomattox River in Henrico County, Virginia in 1639; wife name, Anne---Over the years, descendants from this union increased, spreading over the New World into the Carolinas. John W. Cobb's grandfather, Vintner Cobb, was born in Rockingham, N. C. and fathered many children. One of his sons, John Addison Cobb, married Susan White, a first cousin of Nancy Hanks. In the late 1700's Vintner, John Addison, and Susan emigrated from North Carolina to Kentucky. In time John Addison and Susan became parents of 4 sons and 6 daughters. John W. being born in 1818. I am one of John W. Cobb's great grand children by virtue of the fact, that John W's granddaughter, Carrie Cobb Johns, the wife of Fred Johns, was my mother. In erecting this memorial, I am Hopeful, as the years go by, at least some of his offspring will be moved in their hearts to keep this site in a good, decent, state of repair in respect for their progenitor John W. Cobb. J. C. Johns. 1987"
