Rhyddfedd Frych, sometimes called Rhudd Fedel Frych, may have been a late 5th-century Welsh ruler. At least one historian has suggested that he may have been the first member of the royal house of Powys to be styled as "Prince".
The mother of Ednyfed was Angharad, daughter of Hwfa ap Cyner (Cynwrig/Cynvrig) ap Rhywallon ap Dinged (Dynged)ap Tudor Trefor ap Mymbyr (Ynyr) ap Cadfarch ap Gwrgenaw (Gwrgant) ap Gwaethiawc ap Bywyn ap Biordderch ap Gwriawn ap Gwnnan ap Gwnfiw frych ap Cadell Dehurnlluc ap Pasgan ap Rhydwf ap Rhudd Fedel frych ap Cyndeirn ap Gwrtheirn Gwrthenau, called in English Vortigern, by whom King Henry the Seventh, by the aforesaid Angharad, mother to Ednyfed Fychan and wife to Cyner ab Iers ap Gwgon, is son to the said Vortigern in thirty degrees.
