Major Sir Lionel Cecil William Alexander, 6th Bt. was born on 23 September 1885. He is the son of Sir William Ferdinand Alexander, 5th Bt. and Edith La Fargue.

He married, firstly, Hon. Noorouz Weston Cable, daughter of Sir Ernest Cable, 1st and last Baron Cable and Lilian Sarah Sparkes, on 15 December 1908. They divorced in 1924.

He married, secondly, Hopeful Merrison Rose Hurrell, daughter of Captain George William Hurrell, on 17 July 1924. He died on 6 August 1956 at age 70.

Major Sir Lionel Cecil William Alexander, 6th Bt. succeeded to the title of 6th Baronet Alexander, of Belcamp, County Dublin on 13 February 1896.

During the First World War he served in the 23rd Battalion, London Regiment and gained the rank of Major. He was decorated with the Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1916; and also received Croix de Guerre. He held the office of High Sheriff of Huntingdonshire in 1929.
