Historical Notes

Thomas made his Will in 1736, and specifically names his sons Ambrose, Thomas, and Matthew. This Will was proved in York County on 17 September 1750, and was witnessed by Ben Eggleston, Edmund Cobbs, and James Shields.

All sources concur that Thomas Cobbs and Mary Shields had a son named Thomas, and that is as far as agreement goes. Sources conflict as to the date and place of his birth, and who he married. It is possible but very unlikely both of these men were the sons of Thomas and Mary. But pending definitive documentation, will be assigned to them.
