Wendell, a Johnson County farmer, became Commissioner, Division Soil and Water Resources, 1946-1951. He served as a Kentucky State Senator from the 225th Senatorial District comprised of Johnson, Lawrence and Boyd counties from 1952 to 1960 and again from 1964-1971. During his senate tenure he was Minority or Republican Floor Leader for twelve years. Wendell was a member of the Kentucky Parole Board 1971-1972. Supervisor, Kentucky Wild Rivers System, 1973-76, and President of the Johnson County Farm Bureau, 1945-1976.
