Historical Notes

Samuel and Mary Cobbs owned land in Bedford Co, Virginia, at the time of his death in 1758. In his Will, which was signed in September and proved on Nov 28, 1758, he declared, "Should all my wife's children die without issue, then so much of my estate as came by my wife shall be equally divided among the children of Jane, the wife of Thomas Meriwether, of Louisa County; and Ann, the wife of John Lewis of Spotsylvania County." Executors were Samuel Dalton, Nicholas Lewis,and Samuel's brother Edmund Cobbs.
