Naomi Judd was an American country music singer and actress. In 1980, she and her daughter Wynonna formed the duo known as The Judds, which became a highly successful country music act, winning five Grammy Awards and nine Country Music Association awards. The duo was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, one day after Naomi's death.
Naomi Judd was born Diana Ellen Judd on January 11, 1946 in Ashland, Kentucky. She was a daughter of Charles Glen Judd and Pauline Ruth Oliver. She was the paternal granddaughter of Roy Ogden Judd and Sallie Ellen Moore and maternal granddaughter of Howard Waverly Oliver and Edith Mae Burton.
Naomi was also the fifth great-grandniece of Jenny Wiley. She was a descendant of John and Catherine Elizabeth Sellards Borders (Jenny’s older sister).
She was a fifth cousin of Patty Loveless and Billy Ray Cyrus through the Pack family.
She married Michael Charles Ciminella in Virginia in 1964. They were the parents of Wynonna Judd and Ashley Judd. They divorced in 1972.
Naomi was the wife of Larry Strickland whom she married in 1989.
She and her eldest daughter, Wynonna, made up the country music duo The Judds. Her other daughter, Ashley Judd, is a noted actress.
Naomi died at the age of seventy-six on April 30, 2022 in Leiper’s Fork (Williamson County), Tennessee.
