[N849] At this point in time (July 2004), it is not absolutely proven that James was the son of Henry Cobb and Elizabeth "Betsy" Shetley. However, DNA analysis of James' descendants does show a common ancestry with the Ambrose Cobb who died in Lincoln County, North Carolina about 1798. An examination of records also seems to indicate that James was in fact the son of Henry and Elizabeth.
[N850] This marriage produced thirteen children.
[N852] Theirs was not an actual marriage relationship. James abandoned his wife of almost 25 years and twelve children to spend the rest of his life with Catherine Elizabeth Lawson.
