[N1477] During the War Between the States, he served in Company C, 40th Georgia Infantry Regiment. An interesting note concerning this; he was captured and parolled on condition that he remain North of the Ohio River. Evidently he honored the terms of the parole, and even sent for his family, which explains why his daughters Annie and Josephine were born in Illinois.
