Historical Notes
Gemima Borders, daughter of John and Catherine (Sellards) Borders and granddaughter of Hezekiah Sellards was born ca 1806 in Kentucky. She married in Floyd County, Kentucky on July 26, 1821, Valentine "Felty" Vanhoose, born September 19, 1797 the son of John and Mary (Bryan) Vanhoose and grandson of Colonel John Vanhoose, a Revolutionary War soldier of Anson County, North Carolina. Felty's grandfather, Colonel John came to Jennies Creek in Floyd County about 1810. Felty died sometime between 1870 and 1880.
Gemima and Valentine settled near Whitehouse, Kentucky. At the time of the 1880 census Gemima was living with her son-in-law, Peter Daniel on Toms Creek, Johnson County, Kentucky. Most list Gemima as Jemima, but Gemima seems to be the correct spelling.
