[N2575] Robert was a veteran of the Revolution, having first been recommended for a commission in the Virginia militia, by the Court in Bedford County, Virginia, on 28 September 1778. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 26 November 1779, and was eventually elected Captain. During his service, he served under Generals Gates and Greene, and was present during the battles of Camden and Guilford Courthouse. In later years, his widow received a pension (#W.18929. D. p33) based on his military experience.
