Hezekiah Borders Hammond provided his description of Hezekiah Brown based on their meeting in 1935.
A couple of miles above the homestead (H. B. Hammonds boyhood home) I met a very interesting character, Hezekiah Brown. When I told him Hezekiah Borders was my grandfather he replied Hezekiah Borders was also his grandfather. I had only about fifteen minutes with him as he was on his way to the home of a son to hear a sermon on the radio. He could see me later, but I could not wait then, and I hoped to see him again which I was unable to do. We met this man in the road, and Mr. Bevins (George Bevins) realized I should talk to him so he stopped the car. He was a big raw boned roughneck of a fellow, much over six feet tall and very quick and positive in his speech. He was 85 years old and he came stepping down the road like a ten year old boy, walking with a staff, not a cane. I greatly desired to talk to him longer. His mind was clear and his speech like a trip hammer. He told me readily about father and Uncle James Hammond, and when they married, Aunt Julia and also how he had worked with father in cutting hoop poles and cutting tan bark. I could see very readily that he knew our folks well. When I returned to the locality in 1938 he had passed away.
