Ernest Moxley SELLARDS #9649
FEB 1872 - ABT 1917
BIRTH FEB 1872, Ohio, USA
DEATH ABT 1917
Historical Notes
In his earlier years of practice Ernest traveled by horse and carriage, but when the auto became available he was one of the first to own one in Ashland, Kentucky. It is reported Ernest was a handsome man, who occasionally like to tipple, much to the consternation of his wife Nannie who was a strict Presbyterian. One evening a man came to the front door stating he must see Dr. Sellards at once. The houseboy demurred saying the doctor was indisposed. The man then replied "If you mean he's had a drink or two it still makes no difference. My brother won't let anyone else operate on him, but Dr. Sellards." So the doctor left and did the appendectomy. The surgery was apparently a success as the patient lived to a ripe old age.
