Abram was one of the few remaining physicians who maintained his office in his residence in Joliet, which he did until age 81 when for all practical purposes he stopped practice. Several times in the past few years he had been a victim of robberies, including beatings requiring medical attention. But he refused to move from the Southside area where he and hes family resided while he practiced medicine for more than 56 years.

Educated at the Stritch Medical School in Chicago, now Loyola University, he served as a surgeon for US Steel Corporation in Joliet for many years. Abram was on the medical staffs of both Silver Cross Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet.
