His exact date of death is unknown, but since he was not mentioned in his wife's Will of 1787, he was probably deceased by that time. In the Orange County records is a 1795 account of one John D. Grymes, acting as Administrator of Ludwell's estate, charging for expenses incurred by "traveling to Williamsburg to attend suits in the high court of chancery", between Ludwell Grymes and Walker Maury, and for having "the graves of his father and mother paled in".
