Seth Brett THORNTON #22721

25 MAY 1815 - 18 AUG 1847
BIRTH 25 MAY 1815
BURIAL Myrtlewood Cemetery Livingston, Sumter, Alabama, USA
It is of course extremely doubtful that he is actually buried here. It is most likely that this monument is a memorial to his memory.
DEATH 18 AUG 1847, Mexico

Historical Notes

He was killed in action while serving as Captain of Company F, 2nd US Dragoons. His sword and epaulettes are now in the Smithsonian Institute. His second in command was Lieutenant Ripley Arnold, who two years later while leading the same unit established a frontier outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River in north central Texas. That "outpost" is today the City of Fort Worth. Arnold is buried in Pioneer Cemetery in Fort Worth.
