Historical Notes

A Real American Hero. SPEC4 Ollie Ray Stapleton was an infantryman in Vietnam when on patrol he stepped on a land mine and was killed. Ollie won the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action. In addition, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor with Combat Distiguishing Device (V) for his exemplary gallantry in action. Ollie also earned the Bronze Star for Merit for his sustained meritorious service.
