[N551] At the August term of the County Court held for Claiborne County 1808, Benjamin Posey was admitted leave to keep a house of Entertainment, where he was then living during one year and for his securities George Evans and Walter Evans were received by the Court. At the same Court, Benjamin Posey came into Court and registered the Ear Mark of his stock with a crop and slit in each ear.

On 9 February 1818 Benjamin Posey presented a petition to the court praying leave to keep a house of public entertainment at his own house in the County of Claiborne and the Court being satisfied that said Benjamin is a man of good demeanor do grant said petition thereupon said Benjamin entered to bond with John Bullard his security and it is ordered that a license be issued to the said Benjamin Posey to have a house of public Entertainment for one year.

On 10 February 1818 after making proclamation the court proceeded to the election of coroner of the county for the ensuing two years and after counting the votes it appears that Benjamin Posey was elected coroner and thereupon was declared to be elected coroner of said county.
